
Rabdan Academy’s Students Conduct a Study Visit to Italy to Learn about Italian Civil Protection System

Rabdan Academy organised a 2-week study visit to Italy, attended by 15 students from various programs of the Academy, with the purpose of learning about the strategies and practices of the Italian civil protection system.
The visit comes in line with the advanced level of programs offered by Rabdan Academy and its keenness to adopt a scientific approach to achieve a unified, integrated, and effective response to deal with all types of complex threats, risks, accidents, and crises efficiently. It offered unique experience by enabling the participating students to benefit from an interesting and deeply enriching hands-on experience, with a wide variety of lectures, field visits and exercises.
During their stay in Italy, the participating students visited a number of most relevant organisations to risk assessment, risk management, disaster response and recovery, including, but not limited to, the Department of Civil Protection, IUSS Pavia, CIMA Research Centre, National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), the Joint NBC Defence School, the National Inspectorate for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection (ISIN), National Agency for Railway, Road Infrastructure and Motorway Safety (ANSFISA), and others.
The visit was the first of its kind in the UAE to include a specialized professional training program enabling students to learn about the integrated system for risk and emergency management in Italy. The training program included high-level topics that introduced students to the Italian service of Civil Protection, Emergency Response Framework, Seismic Risk Assessment, Multi-hazard Risk Assessment, Multi-hazard Early Warning Systems, Nuclear Safety Planning and Hydrogeological Risk/Landslides.
The students also experienced engaging in a number of specialised exercises contributing to their practical knowledge across business continuity management and integrated emergency management, including hydrological risk simulation, fire risk simulation, nuclear risk simulation.
It is worth noting that Rabdan Academy continues to coordinate with a number of international leading institutions in the academic and practical aspects, along with organising such unique specialised study visits for its students to exchange experiences in scientific research and to identify international best practices.
