Abu Dhabi – UAE, 15 April 2025: Her Excellency Sheikha Dr. Mozah Bint Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Advisor in the Department of Development and International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held an official meeting to launch the initiative titled “The Academic Water Carnival: A Showcase of Challenges and Solutions.”
The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Department of Development and International Cooperation, in coordination with the Ministry’s Department of Energy and Sustainability, and in partnership with several national universities and research centers, as well as the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Office in Abu Dhabi.
The initiative aims to shed light on water-related issues and challenges, as part of the preparations for the 2026 United Nations Water Conference, which will be co-hosted by the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Senegal. The conference will place special focus on Sustainable Development Goal 6: “Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.”
Her Excellency Sheikha Dr. Mozah Bint Tahnoon Al Nahyan emphasized that the initiative seeks to support the launch of academic research projects led by some of the country’s leading scientific institutions, including UAE University, Abu Dhabi University, University of Sharjah, Rabdan Academy, and the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research, with the goal of offering innovative and sustainable scientific solutions to water-related challenges.
Her Excellency praised the fruitful collaboration among participating entities and highlighted the importance of such partnerships in ensuring the initiative’s success. She also expressed hope for its continuity through future global platforms such as COP30 and Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, further solidifying the UAE’s leading position in advancing international efforts toward water security and environmental sustainability.
