Mission

The program prepares graduates as leaders who are able to manage a multidisciplinary team in the application of standard, ethical, practices, procedures, and technologies to identify threats, assess risk, and implement organisational, interagency, integrated emergency management solutions to enhance resilience of the nation.

Description

The Integrated Emergency Management program builds national resilience capacities through courses on standard practices, procedures and technologies to collect information, conduct risk assessment, and develop effective plans for emergency management, response, leadership, relief, and recovery. Through a combination of lectures, discussion, simulation exercises, and applied real-world scenarios, students learn team organisation, professional ethics, interagency operations, and resilience through the core principles of contemporary relevance, integration, cooperation, multi-agency coordination, and interoperability. Graduates are leaders who contribute to the safety, security, defence, emergency preparedness, and crisis management (SSDEC) for resilience of the nation.

Educational Objectives

  • Have relevant technological skills, knowledge, and abilities for employment as a manager in the SSDEC sector.
  • Work, lead, and communicate effectively in a team to achieve common goals.
  • Apply standards, ethical practices, procedures, and technologies to collect information, conduct risk assessment, and develop effective programs.
  • Implement organisational, interagency solutions to strengthen the SSDEC community and build national resilience capacities.
  • Expand knowledge and capabilities through continuing education, certification, and other lifelong learning opportunities.
  • Fulfil civic duties and responsibilities through local, national, or global service.

Learning Outcomes

  • Develop knowledge of principles, theory and frameworks applicable to solving problems related to organizational integrated emergency management.
  • Apply research methodologies and techniques to identify the broader role that organisational integrated emergency management plays in the resilience of the nation and society as a whole.
  • Analyse the organisational, legal, social and ethical problems relevant to organisational integrated emergency management and formulate resilience-based solutions.
  • Communicate effectively through written and oral methods comprehensive risk management practices as the basis for developing integrated emergency management programs.
  • Work independently in a collaborative setting to generate innovative solutions for complex crisis situations within integrated emergency management contexts.
  • Take responsibility for self-improvement to foster a life-long learning culture.
  • Apply integrated emergency management knowledge, skills and abilities including the ability to synthesize different or conflicting ideas to formulate effective data driven outcomes.
