Prior to joining Rabdan Academy, Dr. Glenn Fernandez was an Associate Professor at the Institute for Disaster Management and Reconstruction (IDMR), a joint institute of Sichuan University and Hong Kong Polytechnic University in Chengdu, China. He is a licensed Environmental Planner in the Philippines. He is also a PECB Certified ISO 31000 Risk Manager, a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and a Certificate of the Business Continuity Institute (CBCI) holder. He previously worked as a researcher at the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) in Bangkok, Thailand and at the Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies in Kyoto University in Japan. His decade-long research and advocacy related to youth participation in disaster risk reduction led to Glenn being chosen as one of the 2019 Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) awardees and as one of the 2021 Presidential Panama ng Pilipino awardees. Glenn was an Integrated Research on Disaster Risk Program (IRDR) Young Scientist. After a competitive global call for applications, Glenn was chosen as the Early-Career Champion for the “Sustainable Solutions from the Global South” pillar at the 2021 Sustainability Research and Innovation Congress. Glenn is one of the ten Early-Career Researchers (ECR) representatives in the Future Earth General Assembly. Glenn had worked on disaster risk management research and capacity development projects in China, Fiji, Indonesia, Japan, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. He was a Section Editor (2019-2020) at the Elsevier journal Progress in Disaster Science and is currently an Associate Editor at the Environmental Development Journal.
