Dr. Malek Abdulsalam Abd Alalah El-Qallali

Assistant Professor

Dr. Malek joined Rabdan Academy as an Assistant Professor in Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship. Over the last 10 years, Dr. Malek had various research and teaching experience at the higher education institutions in the United Kingdom (UK), including the University of Bath and University of York.


Dr Malek holds various degrees, including BEng in Electronic and Communication Engineering, MSc in Digital Communications, MSc in Innovation and Technology Management, and PhD in Innovation Management, all from the University of Bath, from the faculty of Engineering and Design, as well as from the School of Management. During that period, Dr. Malek received the Student of the Year award, the Academic Representative of the Year award, Academic Representative Outstanding Contribution Award, and the MSc Dean’s Award for Citizenship. 


Outside academia, Dr Malek had previous business and industry experience with projects in energy, food and beverage, sustainability, and global management consulting. One of his most recent experiences was as an innovation analyst and consultant for Strategic Innovation Ltd. His role consisted of providing insights and analysis in supporting the Industrial Innovation Centre in the Sultanate of Oman to shape the future of the Food and Beverage sector, aligned with Oman’s Vision 2040. Focusing on sustainability in the food and beverage sector and limestones. Dr Malek was also the co-founder and director at Digital Émigré, an information hub consultancy for remote working and relocation to the European Union via Portugal and other EU states.

Research Interests

    Dr Malek is interested in innovation management and the use of emerging, disruptive, and digital technologies. In particular, unpacking human-centric approaches in projects and the evolution over time, temporality and tempo factors.


    During the academic year 2023/2024 Dr Malek secured a funding of £111,000 following the successful InterAct sandpit and proposal in May 2023. This is part of a diverse multidisciplinary team working to “develop a strategy that will shape the rebranding of UK digital manufacturing.” InterAct is a £4.4 million, Made Smarter Innovation-funded, Economic and Social Research Council-led (ESRC) network. It aims to bring together economic and social scientists, UK manufacturers, and digital technology providers to address the human issues resulting from the diffusion of new technologies in the industry.


    In March 2025, Dr Malek joined the University of Manchester as a reviewer for funding applications. SALIENT: UK research hub advancing national security and resilience through interdisciplinary collaboration and citizen engagement.
