Dr. Carla Rudder

Associate Professor, General Education and Foundation Program

Dr. Carla Rudder is currently an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Rabdan Academy. Prior to joining Rabdan Academy she taught mathematics at Zayed University in Abu Dhabi, UAE, a community college in Florida, USA and a middle school at an international school in Singapore. From the United States, Dr. Rudder was educated at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC, USA and graduated with a BS in Applied Mathematics.

Prior to beginning her academic career she completed her Masters and Doctorate in Mathematics Education from Florida State University. Dr. Rudder has conducted research in mathematical problem solving, developmental mathematics and currently focusing on play based learning in mathematics. Since beginning her career, Dr. Rudder has realized a passion for developmental mathematics education, curriculum development, and action research.

Dr. Rudder has participated in both individual and collaborative research. She presented her findings from research on developmental mathematics at the 2012 Joint Mathematics Meetings in Boston, MA, USA. She was awarded a grant to fund her research entitled “5 Minutes to Success: Using Question Cards in Mathematics as a Pre-emptive Formative Assessment.” The purpose of the research was to investigate was to assist students in gauging their own learning prior to a weighted exam.
